After leaving my university I embarked on a computer career, specialising in providing technical support to businesses with IBM 'mainframes'. I soon decided that I wanted to experience more of the world than just Britain, so in 1979 I got my first overseas job in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Between then and now I have lived and worked in Singapore (twice), Brunei, Kuwait and Thailand (twice). For the last ten years of my career I specialised in providing support to companies using the German SAP software.

Mr. James D. Lehman
Present occupation and position:
I am presently in semi-retirement in Thailand, living here for the fourth time. My first stay was in 1967. I have been a Member of the Council for four years. I work part time as a consultant in USAID funded programs and the U.S. Peace Corps in Indonesia. I also enjoy assignments as a Group Leader for educational tours of SEA with Road Scholars.

I was the author and photographer for a book titled “Le Palais du Roi” in Phnom Penh. Over the years I have developed a network of friendships and support to many museums and organizations: Guimet Museum, where I am a donor, the San Francisco Museum of Legion d’Honneur and the de Young Museum; the Baur Foundation, Museum of Far Eastern Art in Geneva, École Française d’Extrême Orient for which I am a donor. Support for exhibits including an exhibition of Daravati Art in the Guimet Museum in Paris in Jan. 2009. This year on April 8th 2012 I was granted the highest decoration in my country, France, and became “Chevalier dans l'Ordre de la Legion d'Honneur” for service rendered as a French citizen to culture and the protection of Asian art in Asia.

The King, before becoming Executive Director of the Office of National Museums under the Fine Arts Department. Also, I have been a special lecturer on museology and art history at many universities, namely: Silpakorn, Thammasat and Kasetsat Universities and others. I wrote a book on 44 National Museums for the Fine Arts Department among other articles on art history and museum work for Silpakorn and the Museum Association of Thailand Journals. Also, I am now writing for the Thai Junior Encyclopedia Project on “Museum.”
