Dr Michael Moreton is originally from Britain. He studied medicine in Liverpool. Following this he trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the McGill University program in Montreal Canada. He practiced O & G in Canada and the United States before coming to Asia ten years ago. He founded the Maternity unit at the first foreign owned and operated hospital in china and was in Beijing and Shanghai for over nine years He has been a consultant to the World Health Organization in Maternal and Child Health projects in western China and the Central Asia countries. He came to Thailand a few months ago and is the International Medical Coordinator at the Bangkok Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and is a certified specialist in the USA and China.

Dr Moreton will draw on his experience in China to talk about medical care in China, the challenges of introducing Eurocentric medical care to Asian countries and the sensitivities needed to make the care acceptable to patients from different cultural backgrounds.
