During the weekend Friday 13 to Sunday 15 June 2008, Khun Kanitha Kasina-Ubol, Acting General Manager, will lead Siam Society members to visit some seldom-visited beaches, a forest reserve, and the Sam Roi Yot (Three Hundred Peaks) National Park. These little-visited beaches are in Bang Saphan, Bang Saphan Noi and Pathiu districts of Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphorn provinces. Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park is located some 320 kilometers south of Bangkok, and consists of great limestone hills plunging into the Gulf of Thailand. The highest point rises to 605 meters, and commands superb views of this meeting point of land and sea. Several caves, fine beaches and a unique marsh are among the other major attractions.
Members will depart from the Siam Society by bus on Friday, 13 June at 7.30 a.m., and will return to the Siam Society on Sunday, 15 June at approximately 7.30 p.m. Two nights will be spent at a beautiful and newly built Nirvana Sand Dune Resort in Bang Saphan Noi. On Sunday the group will visit other places of interest, including the Thailand-Union of Myanmar border checkpoint, the Phra Rathaniwet Maruekhathayawan Palace (built for King Vachiravudh) near Cha-am, and an interesting wooden temple, Wat Kuti Bang Khem in Phetchaburi province.
