Unbound Craft. A Talk by Eggarat Wongcharit



After 10 years of educating and experiencing design in New York and Milan, Mr. Eggarat Wongcharit finally settled in Thailand to discover the origin of Thai design root. Throughout the whole 20 years of experiencing both theoretical design education and realistic practice, Eggarat has settled his own design atelier in 2002. He has established a furniture brand “Crafactor” and start exporting furniture and home accessories that express Thai design attitude to global market.

With Eggarat’s design direction to infuse the local wisdom of South East Asian crafts together with massive modern technology, the designed products have received reognition among global buyers. As a result, the company has received many local and international design awards due to its original characteristics. Eggarat has been contributing his own design experiences to many local and international design activities including his curatorship for Korea’s Gwangju Design Biennale exhibition and Milan’s Slow hand design exhibition for Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) to promote Thai designer’s showcases at global scope. His recent project of Iniala beach hotel in Phuket Thailand has gained him a reputation among global media while his furniture design collections have gained popularity among 5 stars residences, resorts, and boutique hotels around the globe.

For his talk titled “Unbound Craft” from the lecture series “Contemporary Design in Thailand”, Mr. Eggarat Wongcharit will introduce the DNA of Thai crafts through Unbound Craft exhibition, dividing crafts into 4 parts. Being one of the designers most well-versed in Thai style, he will use experience in the field as well as his remarkable past works of both research and design to explore the core of Thai design.
