Russia in Asia: Historical Milestones
and Modern Partnership

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bangkok, together with The Siam Society Under Royal Patronage, will organise a special lecture by the Ambassador Evgeny Tomikhin on the topic of historical and modern relationship between Russia and Asia.

The lecture will start with the review of the relations between Russia and countries of the Asia-Pacific region, its history and key points. The Ambassador will cover the Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership, which has reached the strategic level in November 2018. He will draw special attention to ASEAN-centred mechanisms as core elements of evolving regional architecture.

In this context, the Ambassador will touch upon the historical moments which influenced the modern Russian-Thai relations and current prospects of bilateral ties in the field of culture, education, tourism, and economy.

The second part of the Ambassador’s talk will introduce the characteristics of several Russian regions, including local culture, art, nature, and special economic zones. He will also describe main events of the Year of Theatre in Russia in 2019 which was announced in order to preserve and popularise the theatrical traditions and achievements, to show the remarkable works of the Russian theatrical art.

HE Mr Evgeny Tomikhin is the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand (2018–) and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission (ESCAP) in Bangkok. He graduated from the Leningrad (Saint Petersburg) State University in 1989 and joined the Russian diplomatic service in 1990. He has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad.

This event is free of charge. A reception will be held at 6.30pm before the lecture begins.
