Journal of the Siam Society


The Siam Society, under Royal Patronage, is one of Thailand’s oldest and most active learned organization. The object of the Society is to investigate and to encourage the arts and sciences in Thailand and neighbouring countries.

Since the Society established its Journal in 1904, it has become one of the leading scholarly publications in South-East Asia. The Journal is international in outlook, carrying original articles of enduring value in English.

The Journal of Siam Society welcomes original articles and reviews of a scholarly nature in conformity with the principles and objectives of the Siam Society, investigating the arts and sciences of Thailand and neighbouring countries.

The journal is edited by Mr. Kim W. Atkinson. Kim has a BA from Harvard and MS from the University of Hawai’i. He first came to Thailand as a Peace Corps Volunteer in 1966, and came again in 1971 to work for UN ESCAP and the Nation group. He was actively involved with the Society, and served on the Council from 1972 to 1981. He then left for a roving life working as an editor, mainly for UN organizations.
